Profile of a bully

  • Bullies are usually male and tend to be bigger than most kids
  • Bullies are usually hot tempered, impulsive, and have low tolerance for frustration
  • Bullies tend to get into trouble more often and do poorly in school
  • Bullies are more likely to fight, drink and smoke than there peers
  • Parents of bullies tend to provide little emotional support, provide minimal supervision and little involvement in their life
  • There appears to be a strong relationship between bullying and later criminality as an adult.  One study found that 60% of those characterized as bully in middle school had at least one criminal activity by age 24
